Assistant/Associate Professor of Physical Therapy (Tenure Track)
University of Tennessee Health Science Center, in partnership with the national search firm Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for two positions of Assistant/Associate Professor of Physical Therapy (tenure track). University of Tennessee Health Science Center seeks a collaborative faculty member and researcher/scholar to join the Department of Physical Therapy.
Preference will be given to candidates who have teaching experience in kinesiology, physiology/pathophysiology, anatomy, or orthopedics; and to collaborative individuals with an active research program in musculoskeletal research including but not limited to biomechanics, injury epidemiology, genetics, and predictive analytics. Other areas of teaching and research expertise will be considered. Salary, rank, and a startup research package will be commensurate with experience and evidence of productivity.
Responsibilities Include:
- Teaching, research, student advisement, and university and professional service.
- Publish peer-reviewed scholarly work in accordance with professional and college guidelines.
Required Qualifications:
To be considered for the assistant professor position:
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree and a terminal academic degree (PhD, EdD)
- Evidence of peer reviewed publications appropriate with rank
- Evidence of established research/scholarship expertise
To be considered for an associate professor position:
- DPT degree and PhD, EdD or another academic doctorate
- Minimum of 5 years of university academic teaching experience and content expertise
- Evidence of sustained peer reviewed publications consistent with rank
- Evidence of extramural funding to support an established area of research
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Eligible for licensure in the state of Tennessee.
- 3-5 years academic teaching and research experience at a Carnegie classified R1 research institution.
- Extramurally funded research program in physiology/pathophysiology, biomechanics, cancer rehabilitation, or sports injuries.
- Research mentoring PhD and/or DPT students.

About the College of Health Professions:
The College of Health Professions serves as the administrative home for allied health programs offered through the Departments of Audiology and Speech Pathology, Department of Diagnostic and Health Sciences, Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy. The College also houses a research arm, the Division of Regenerative and Rehabilitation Sciences (https://www.uthsc.edu/health-professions/research/rehabilitation-sciences.php), and includes the Muscle Biology and Sarcopenia Laboratory, the Muscle and Neural Laboratory, the Integrative Muscle Biology Laboratory, the Human Performance Clinical and Research Laboratory, and the Movement Science Laboratory. A PhD in Regenerative and Rehabilitation Sciences is also offered through the Division.
