Orthopaedic Associates of Maine is hiring a full-time Physical Therapist in Portland, ME.
POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of our outstanding team, the Physical Therapist is responsible for treating patients in consultation with a physician or on a prescription basis. Position performs evaluations, plans and implements physical rehabilitative treatment using physical agents and therapeutic exercise on patients in accordance with department protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides preventative and rehabilitative services that maximize functionality and promote well-being
Review patients’ medical history and any referrals or notes from doctors or surgeons
Identify and meet patient’s goals and needs
Diagnose patients’ dysfunctional movements by observing them stand or walk and by listening to their concerns, among other methods
Communicate and coordinate with patients’ physicians to ensure a consistent level of care
Devises individualized treatment and care plans for each of the patients, outlining the patient’s goals and the expected outcome of the plan using a variety of treatment techniques
Use exercises, stretching maneuvers, hands-on therapy, and equipment to ease patients’ pain, help them increase their mobility, prevent further pain or injury, and facilitate health and wellness
Motivate patients during treatment in order to help them function optimally
Promote clients’ healthy lifestyle by improving strength, flexibility, balance, and coordination
Exercise independent judgment based on experience to implement effective treatment combinations
Evaluate a patient’s progress, modifying a plan of care and trying new treatments as needed
Educate patients and their families about what to expect from and how best to cope with the recovery process
Perform accurate and timely documentation
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Offer cost-effective treatments that help improve clients’ motion and mobility
Reduce the need for medications and provide alternatives to surgery
Provide quality, personalized and evidence-based care and proven interventions
Consult and practice with other health professionals
Keeps abreast of current issues involving patient care or practice issues by attending and participating in department, team and practice meetings
Responsible for ongoing personal and professional growth and development and maintaining licensure
Adheres to organizational policies, protocols, regulations
Demonstrate professionalism at all times
Displays cooperative behavior and interacts positively and effectively with others to promote a team environment
Performs other duties necessary to maintain the overall efficiency and continuity of the dept
Is proactive in identifying, reporting and participating in the resolution of any potential or actual patient safety issues

QUALIFICATIONS
Graduate of an accredited school with a degree as a Physical Therapist.
Current Maine State Physical Therapy license
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required.
ACLS certification is desired
Prior experience as a PT, preferably in outpatient orthopaedics.
Demonstrated clinical competence in relevant area of practice. Thorough knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, with particular knowledge of the musculoskeletal system. Current knowledge of medications and their effects on the human body.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with patients, physicians, supervisors and other staff
Skill in time management, prioritizing and medical care coordination
Ability to organize and accomplish tasks, and have the flexibility to meet changing demands on daily basis
Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to project and maintain a professional image
Ability to work independently and excel as part of a team
Excellent customer service skills
Proficient computer skills
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT
Daily use of computer operating instruments; stationary PC, Laptop PC, keyboard and mouse
Light lifting of paperwork, folders or other general record keeping materials
Operation of various office equipment: fax machine, telephone & voice mail system, stationary/lap top computer, e- mail system, scanner, and copier
Lifting up to 20 pounds occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently
Walks frequently
May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
Risk of exposure to hazardous conditions and blood borne pathogens
Frequent reaching, twisting, bending
